A Parent's Guide to Booklings: What You Need to Know
Your child wants to publish a book online. That's exciting — and maybe a little nerve-wracking. We get it. Here's everything you need to know about Booklings and how we keep young authors safe.
What Is Booklings?
Booklings is a free platform where kids write, illustrate, and publish their own interactive storybooks. Think of it like YouTube, but for storybooks — kids create the content, and anyone can read it. Books come to life with page-turn animations, custom covers, and professional formatting.
Who Is It For?
Booklings is designed for young authors ages 5-18, though writers of any age are welcome. Younger kids (5-8) might need help from a parent or older sibling to use the book creator. Older kids (9+) can typically use it independently.
Is It Free?
Yes, completely free. Creating an account, making books, publishing, and reading are all free. We don't show ads, and we don't sell user data.
How Does Safety Work?
We take safety seriously, especially since our audience includes children:
Content filtering: Every book goes through an automated profanity and inappropriate content filter before it can be published. This catches common bad words, slurs, and inappropriate phrases.
Admin moderation: Our team can review, edit, or remove any published content at any time.
Minimal personal data: We only collect a username, email (for password recovery), and optionally a display name and age. We don't require real names, addresses, or phone numbers.
No messaging: There's no direct messaging, chat, or commenting system. Kids can't contact each other through the platform.
No tracking: We don't use advertising trackers, analytics tools, or third-party cookies. The only cookie we use is a basic session cookie to keep users logged in.
What About Copyright?
Your child owns everything they create on Booklings. Their stories, their illustrations — it's all theirs. We simply have permission to display it on our platform. You can request removal of any content at any time by contacting us.
How to Get Started

4. Publish! The book goes live in our library for anyone to read and enjoy
Ways to Support Your Young Author
Be their first reader. Read their books on Booklings and give them a heart. It means the world.
Help with brainstorming. If they're stuck, ask "what if?" questions. "What if the dragon was friendly?" "What if they found a secret room?"
Don't over-edit. It's tempting to fix every spelling mistake, but the charm of a kid's book is that it sounds like a kid wrote it. Help with big issues, but let their voice shine through.
Share their work. Every book has share buttons for Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends would love to read your child's book.
Make it physical. Use the "Download PDF" button on any published book to get a printable version. Print it, staple or bind it, and put it on your bookshelf alongside the "real" books.
